GENDER ISSUES Gender discrimination is a problem which has been shed light on since a very long time but is still prevalent globally. Gender discrimination is described as the unfavorable treatment of individuals on the basis of their gender, which in turn denies them rights in a society along with other opportunities and resources (Reeves Baden, 2000). The ratio of gender discrimination remains higher in developing countries as compared to developed economies. Gender discrimination exists in the different stages of life that we come across. Being born into a world where groups are made and segmentation is done for all purposes, we are told education is our right but still the literacy rate of women in developing countries remains shamefully low. Just as they reach adolescence they are given the role of home makers, not caring whether they are ready or not, so the years that should be spending on secondary education are spent understanding responsibilities of a wife. When they get near to the age that they should have been graduating from high school, and going towards a possible career path that they may have dreamed as a child, they already have the responsibility of two or more children on their hands, and then the remaining of their life is spent raising kids to the best of their ability. The cycle goes on if they have more daughters, but is entirely different for sons who are considered the sole bread earners for the family and caretakers of the family.
